Worship and praise are two of the most powerful and effective spiritual weapons that you’ve been given to help you as your journey through this life. The power of testimony is embedded into the very fabric of “spirit and truth” praise because gratitude is the point of origin for praise. Revelation 19:10 says that “…the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” What that means is this: When your praise and worship are founded on the power of testimony, and when you give thanks to the Lord for those things He has done, you are prophetically telling others that what God has done for you- He will do for them!
He has healed you, answered prayer, redeemed you, pulled you out of a dark place, walked with you through fire, spoken His Word into your life- and so much more. When you sing and give thanks to God for each testimony you carry within you, your praise becomes a weapon against the enemy, making a “show of Him openly” and declaring the goodness of God to others who need that word in season!
What Are the Benefits of Testimony? A Transformed World!
In Psalm 40: 1-3, David shared his own testimony as he worshipped the Lord saying, “I waited patiently for the Lord, and He turned to me, and heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet on a rock, and established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth, even praise to our God; many will see it, and fear, and will trust in the Lord.“
If the Scriptures in the Psalms have ever brought you encouragement- that is the power of testimony! That same power has been given to you and all you have to do is praise the Lord “in the congregation”, as others have done for you. (Psalm 35:18) The Word of God is filled with the testimonies and stories of people of faith and how God broke through for them. It’s no different in praise and worship. As you sing, hope arises, faith is renewed, strength is restored, strongholds are broken- in you and in the lives of those who see you and hear you as you praise the Lord.
This is why it’s so important that praise and worship and the songs we sing are always centered around the Person of the Godhead (Col. 2:9) and not around “God-themed” anthems to ourselves or songs of personal empowerment with Christian themes and undertones of God.
Your Testimony is Powerful When You Testify of Jesus Christ
Jesus said this, “…if I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men to Myself.” (John 12:32) But here’s the powerful secret – Jesus Christ already was lifted up onto the tree at Calvary!! The reason why our worship must be firmly rooted in the Word of God and must always testify of Jesus Christ is because He was “lifted up” on the cross! In the desert, when Moses lifted up the bronze serpent on the pole (Numbers ch. 21), it was for the healing of the people. It’s the same reason Jesus Christ was lifted up on the cross- our spiritual healing, our emotional healing, our physical healing, healing in our marriages and healing in our relationships. What a testimony of power and praise you have! When we worship, we lift ourselves up to Him as we sing and clap and raise our hands and shout and dance to testify and express our thanksgiving to the Lord for what He has done, is doing and will continue to do!
Thought for today: The Testimony of Praise
When we testify of Jesus Christ, our praise takes on a unique spiritual power and it’s not because of us- it’s because of Him! Revelation 21:11 says, “They overcame Satan by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony…” The power of His blood still testifies today- and we must do the same! We can take the time to exhort, encourage and testify in our worship, but it cannot stop there! If you really want spiritual success and victory, you must always make time in worship to acknowledge what Jesus Christ did when He was lifted up on the cross and to worship the Lord for the true miracles that He has done in your life.
The fact is that praise isn’t just for you. God doesn’t need your praise, although He desires it. But you need to worship Him to stay vitally connected to His Spirit and life within His presence and remember what He has done for you, so you have faith for the next trial… and the world needs to hear you too.
