Your worth and beauty are found inside of yourself, not in what is seen with the human eye. Even the secular world will tell you that! When the prophet Samuel was searching for the right man to rule the nation of Israel, he almost overlooked David, “aka the man after God’s own heart”! (Acts 13:22) It was the Lord who established the concept that what is truly beautiful is found within, and grows out of a heart that loves Him. In 1 Samuel 16:7 the Lord spoke saying, “Do not look at [the] appearance or at physical stature…For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
Did you know that your beauty is a reason to worship the Lord? It’s not a prideful thing to be thankful to God for who He created you to be, for who you are and for how He has put you together “for it is God which works in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:13) Satan fell from heaven because hi had elevated his own beauty above God’s. However, when David wrote, “I will praise you, for You made me with fear and wonder; marvelous are Your works, and You know me completely,” he was praising God for the “works” He had performed in forming David. There was no pride in his worship, it was all about glory to God!
Don’t fall into the trap of looking on the outward appearance at yourself! It may feel strange at first because most people struggle to be grateful for who they are because they maximize their flaws and shortcomings, but that’s a lie!
Maybe you thank God for all kinds of other things and your heart is filled with gratitude for all your blessings, but do you worship, and thank Him and minister unto Him for you? You should! Don’t fall into the trap of looking on the outward appearance at yourself! It may feel strange at first because most people struggle to be grateful for who they are because they maximize their flaws and shortcomings, but that’s a lie!
Of all the many reasons there are to minister to the Lord in your worship, find reasons to thank Him for who you are, all the good things He put inside you, and even how He crafted your individual, unique beauty. You are a wonder and a beauty to Him, even if you don’t feel like it. This is another reason you cannot operate in life by how you “feel”! Your feelings contradict the Word of God and prevent you from entering into a place of complete worship.
Thought for today
Of course there is a line between gratitude for how God has made you and flat out pride! But a heart that is submitted to God doesn’t have to worry about falling into that trap. Simply begin develop a heart of gratitude and appreciation for you. Of all the things you should be worshipping God for doing, start with yourself. He made you. He wants to be worshipped by you. If you can’t be thankful and worship God for the most basic elements of you, whom He, Himself, made, your worship is incomplete. Who cares if it feels weird? Ask the Lord to show you what you have to be grateful for in you- and start to worship!
