How Can You Know That the Steadfast Love of the Lord Never Ceases?

The fallen world has become obsessed with redefining what “love” really means, attempting to separate love from God- but that cannot be! “God is love,” John wrote. (1 John 4) God is the embodiment of love, and that is how you can know beyond a doubt that the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases.

The Lord is eternal and has no end, so neither does His love! Love is God’s inherent nature and state of existence. When the world says “love is love”, they misunderstand what love truly is. True love cannot exist apart from God.

The fact that human beings – saved or unsaved – can experience love at all is because of the great mercy, goodness and compassion of God, who is love. (1 John 4:8)

True love cannot exist apart from God.

If “love” originates within the human heart, it will always be flawed, self-serving, conditional and temporal, but love that originates and remains in Christ has eternal staying power because our God is eternal.

The Steadfast Love of the Lord Never Ceases When Others Do

As the world separates love from God, the cracks begin to show- pride, fear, hatred, heartache, betrayal, despair and hopelessness and sin wreak havoc on minds and hearts because the world is trapped under the sway of sin serving “their father, the devil”. (John 8:44)

Because “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases and His mercies never come to an end” (Lamentations 3:22 ESV), that means it is only by His love and through His definition of love can the world be set back on course.

Love that originates apart from God is false, flawed and will always fail. The world is filled with all kinds of problems and instead of turning their faces to God, they turn their backs and blame Him because they don’t see love, or the peace that He came to bring.

life is hard quote

The lost world cannot understand God’s great love for them, and they struggle with self-loathing. The sinful world cannot understand that the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, nor that, because of His love, He made them in the image of His beloved Son, Jesus.

That’s because, instead of worshipping Him, they began to worship themselves. Then, they became lost in pride and idolatry, exalting themselves above the authority of God. Paul wrote:

“…what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks to Him…” (Romans 1:19-21)

Satan wants to prevent people from understanding God’s great love for them so that they never know who they really are.

Can the Steadfast Love of the Lord Triumph Over Hate?

The truth is: If you struggle to accept God’s unconditional love for you, how will the rest of the world ever know His love? If you don’t understand true love, you’ll fall prey to the enemy’s lies about what love is and where it comes from and what it should look like.

Contrary to what the world will say, “love” is not the answer. GOD IS. In order for the steadfast love of the Lord to triumph over the fear and hate that drives the fallen world, the world doesn’t need more “love”.

The world needs more of God, through His Son, Jesus Christ. Because He is eternal and has so end, and because He is love, He will forever love you and call you to Himself.

Remember this:

“.. neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities nor powers, neither things present nor things to come, neither height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom. 8:38-39)

Because you are accepted through Christ. You are desired. You are forgiven. You are worthy.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” (John 3:16-17)

Because of the pain people experience in this world, the unloving actions, the fearful experiences- every person struggles to understand how God could really love them, especially when they sin. People judge themselves unworthy of His love.

That is a tactic of the enemy to disconnect you from God’s presence! The human’s first instinct is to run from God after sinning, but He wants you to run to Him! He loves you! The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases for you!

The only way to truly begin to grasp the love of the Lord for you is to:

  • Spend more time in His presence through praise and worship
  • Learn more about who He really is as shown in His Word
  • Commune with Him through prayer.

The human mind cannot understand, but the spirit inside of you can. Satan will try, for the rest of your life, to disconnect you from the presence of God, to make you think you’re not worthy or deserving of His love or to make you afraid that something you did could make that love end. Not so!

“O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven or on earth, keeping covenant and showing steadfast love to Your servants who walk before You with all their heart.” (2 Chron. 6:14)

How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.” (Psalm 36:7)

“But You, O God my Lord, deal on my behalf for Your name’s sake; because Your steadfast love is good, deliver me!” (Psalm 109:21)

“Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of His inheritance? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in steadfast love.” (Micah 7:8)

A lifestyle of worship is a spiritual discipline, a foundation built upon the faith that God loves you, and in return, you worship Him, you thank Him daily, you remember Him, you lift His name high, you present your body as a “living sacrifice” to Him… not because He’ll stop loving you, but because He loved you first, and that the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, nor changes.
