The Testing of Your Faith Proves God is Faithful

Every Christian comes to Jesus Christ through faith unto salvation. But to continue forward in your life so that you can “lay hold of the purpose for which Jesus Christ laid hold of you,” (Philippians 3:12), you’ll need a continuing faith, which is different! If your faith isn’t continuing to grow, the waves will toss you, the winds will knock you down, the “valley of the shadow of death” will snare you in fear, the world will infect you with doubt and you’ll never experience the true freedom for which Christ paid for! The testing of your faith does more than produce patience, it proves God’s power!

What many don’t realize about faith is that the Word of God is the primary source of faith, but it is not the only necessary source. If the Word of God is all you are using to build your faith, when someone “smarter” than you in the Word challenges you, you’ll become overpowered when your faith is tested. If prayer is all you use to build your faith, when the enemy comes against you, you’ll have no “sword” to fight with. If worship is all you use to build your faith, you’ll shipwreck in the storm.

Faith is a Cord of Three Strands

The only difference between how life affects you and how it affects others is how you use what you’ve been given.

In life and in your faith, this is an important principle: And if someone might overpower another by himself, two together can withstand him. A threefold cord is not quickly broken.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9) In order to be strong, you faith must a cord of three strands:

  • The weapon of Word of God
  • The power of prayer in the Holy Spirit
  • The wisdom of worship

Each of these is a necessary component of your growth and maturity in Christ and each needs equal emphasis on a daily basis if you’re going to succeed in the war of faith for the situations in your life, in your family, in your finances, in your health, in your children’s lives, in your career and everything else that concerns you. The testing of your faith is part of the Christian walk, why? Not because God wants to know if you’re faithful, but because you need to if you are. As you walk through life and face trials of various kinds, you’ll learn more and more about the Lord, and about yourself! What God can do through you is only limited by what He can do within you. Worship will keep you wide open to His Holy Spirit!

Your Faith Will be Tested, but God Will be Faithful

Remember, the enemy will attack regardless of who is innocent, who didn’t deserve it and who is weak or young, but you don’t have to stand for it. You have the spiritual right and authority to fight back and God ensured your victory via your faith! Life will always have its ups and downs, but as you stand on the Word (Matthew 4:4), pray in the Spirit (Ephesians 6:18, Jude 1:20) and worship the Lord (Acts 16:25-26; 1 Corinthians 14:15) those seasons won’t overtake you. In fact, your faith will be made stronger. If your life is secured with a cord made from the three strands of faith, the enemy will not break it and he will not be able to break you either!

If your life is secured with a cord made from the three strands of faith, the enemy will not break it and he will not be able to break you either!

The author of Hebrews said this: “…solid food belongs to those who are mature, for those who through practice have powers of discernment that are trained to distinguish good from evil. Therefore, leaving the elementary principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.” (Hebrew 5:14-6:2)

Spiritually mature people, people of victory, people walking in freedom in Christ, people who emerge on the other side of battle stronger than when they went in are those whose faith was “not quickly broken” because they have a lifestyle built on the principles of faith. They are people who are no longer mired down in the basic questions of the newly saved or spiritually immature person. They have moved on in the Spirit, in their knowledge of the Word, in discerning the voice of the Lord, in teaching others, discipleship and more. Not because they are “better” but because they are balanced in their faith. If you want a stronger faith, strengthen all three cords in your life and Satan will not be able to break you!

Thought for today: Growing in Faith Means Growing in Faithfulness

If you are reading this and you’ve been struggling in your faith, or if you feel like you have an immature faith or a faith that is lacking in certain areas- strengthen your cords! You will need to build your spiritual life with intention and balance incorporating equal amounts of the Word of God, prayer and worship. If you are not experiencing a life of victory, there is a way out of your rut! You have been given the exact same access to the same spiritual power and authority and faith as anyone else in the whole world. The only difference between how life affects you and how it affects others is how you use what you’ve been given. There isn’t “more” of God. He’s given you all He has – now you need to take it and use it! <3
