The Victory Horn

"He has raised up a victory horn for His people, praise for all His saints, even for the people of Israel near Him." ~Psalm 148:14

Have you ever been in a battle in your life where you’ve employed every strategy and you feel like you’re still losing? The battles of the faith are as brutal as it gets in this life because they can only be won spiritually, not in the natural, and the weapons, strategies and victories are completely different than you’re expecting. And the battleground? The fiercest battles are waged within yourself. That is why you must work to master and utilize your spiritual weapons- because you’re fighting a spiritual battle! (Ephesians 6:12-18 & 2 Corinthians 10:4-6)

The wisdom of the Word, the war in worship and the power of prayer are three of your best weapons and each one has its own unique purposes when you’re waging a spiritual battle, so learn to wield each one! But there’s more! Your Heavenly Father isn’t just the “Big Guy” in the sky. He doesn’t sleep (Psalm 121:2-4). He is a “mighty and terrible” God against His enemies. (Deut. 7:21) He is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies! (Psalm 46:7) Throughout the Word of God we are told over and over that “the battle is the Lord’s”. (2 Chron. 20:15) You may be fighting a battle, but WHY? There are some battles that the Lord has called you to fight and others that He wants to fight for you. You’ll need to become intimately familiar with the voice of His Holy Spirit to discern the difference …and what you should do in the meantime? WORSHIP! But not just any worship….

If truly want the battle to be the Lord’s, you have to intentionally give it to Him- and stop fighting and start worshipping.

Let them praise the name of the Lord, for His name alone is excellent; His glory is above the earth and heaven. He has raised up a victory horn for His people, praise for all His saints, even for the people of Israel near Him.” (Psalm 148:13-14)

The “victory horn” that the Lord will raise up, according to Psalm 148 is formed from the praises of His people, the tehillah praise. [You can learn more about “tehillah” praise and the other “7 Hebrew Words for ‘Praise’ in “The Way of the Worshipper” book!] That is not songs during Sunday service or listening to a CD in your car. “Tehillah” praise is the spontaneous, spiritual song that you sing from your soul to the Lord within the secret of His presence, in moments of intimacy between you and Him. “Tehillah” praise is a song that you write. Its lyrics flow out of gratitude, testimony and exaltation that is highly specific to your own life, what He has done for you and in awe of His glory. If truly want the battle to be the Lord’s, you have to intentionally give it to Him- and stop fighting and start worshipping.

Thought for today

There are spiritual principles that apply to praise and worship, but many people don’t devote their lives to learning them and then putting them into practice and then using them in battle. Why? Because we’re so used to fighting the world, each other and ourselves that we dive in without understanding how the Lord wants us to fight. We sing songs, but we don’t worship. We pray, but we don’t praise. We read the words of the Bible, but don’t sing in the spirit.

In the life of a Christian, almost every battle you’ll ever face will be won on your knees with your hands in the air. In the natural it’s a posture of surrender and loss, but in the spiritual? It’s the sign of surrender and victory! The Lord has already raised up a “victory horn” for you, but you will only be able to access it through tehillah praise- are you ready to win??
