The Right Hand of the Lord

"The right hand of the Lord is valiant! The right hand of the Lord is exalted! The right hand of the Lord is valiant!" ~Psalm 118:15-16

The “right hand” of the Lord is shown in the Word of God to be one of the mightiest aspects of God’s power on display. When God starts to mention bringing His right hand into the equation, nothing can withstand His power! Not enemies, not the forces of nature, not sin, not darkness, not spiritual oppression… nothing. Sometimes we need a reminder of the sheer magnitude of the power of God, especially when we feel powerless. We worship an all-powerful God and it’s easy to forget the mind-boggling greatness of the Creator of the world who spoke all of life into existence when we’re in a weakened condition. And what does God want you to know?

  • His right hand is glorious in power; His right hand shatters the enemy. (Exodus 15:6)
  • “…at His right hand there are pleasures forever more.” (Psalm 16:11)
  • He rescues you by His right hand. (Psalm 17:7) His right hand possesses saving strength. (Psalm 20:6) His right hand will bring you into the land. (Psalm 44:33)
  • His right hand holds you up. (Psalm 18:35, and Psalm 63:8)
  • His right hand will find out those who hate Him. (Psalm 21:8)
  • His right hand is full of righteousness. (Psalm 48:10)
  • His right hand acquired the mountain where He will bring you to be safe. (Psalm 78:54)
  • His right hand has planted the Root that became your salvation. (Psalm 80:14-15)
  • His right hand is strong and victorious. (Psalm 89:13)
  • His right hand has won the victory. (Psalm 98:1)

When we position ourselves at the right hand of the Lord, He doesn’t just reveal His power through His right hand, but He reveals His power though our lives

  • The right hand of the Lord is valiant and the right hand of the Lord is exalted. (Psalm 118:15-16)
  • He stretches forth His hand against the wrath of your enemies, and His right hand saves you from the enemy. (Psalm 138:7)
  • Wherever you go, His right hand will guide you and His right hand shall take hold of you. (Psalm 139:10)
  • He will uphold you with His righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)
  • The Lord swears His holy oath by His strong arm and right hand. (Isaiah 62:8)

Just as powerful in your life and in mine is this: When we position ourselves at the right hand of the Lord, He doesn’t just reveal His power through His right hand, but He reveals His power though our lives in unique and personal ways. Our situations, our fears and concerns, our needs. “The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous,” the Psalmist wrote. Why? Because the power of God displayed in the lives of those who choose to live by His side is something worth shouting about. Hallelujah! “I shall not die, but I shall live and declare the works of the Lord!” Here’s just a glimpse of a life lived at the right hand of Almighty God!

  • He keeps you next to Him by holding onto your right hand. (Psalm 73:23)
  • You’ll sit at His right hand until He makes your enemies your footstool. (Psalm 110:1)
  • For I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, “Do not fear; I will help you.” (Isaiah 41:13)
  • The Lord is a protective shade at your right hand. (Psalm 121:5)
  • The Lord is at your right hand; He shall strike down kings in the day of His wrath. (Psalm 110:5)
  • He is at your right hand, you will not be moved. (Psalm 16:8)

Take some time in your devotions this week to look up these Scriptures and meditate on the mighty right hand of the Lord. Remind yourself of His awesome power and don’t fret about what you can’t control. Pray and release control to Him, and then worship the powerful, matchless, saving, rescuing, victorious Lord with open hands!
