“Vain Imaginings” & “Evil Forebodings”

"When a man is gloomy, everything seems to go wrong; when he is cheerful, everything seems right!" ~Proverbs 15:15

Today I want to share some thoughts with you about the recent pandemic event happening in the world right now. We are all experiencing this and responding to it in different ways and the effects of this season of tribulation and trial will continue to unfold well into the future. Economies. Healthcare systems. Families. Education systems. Careers. Finances. Relationships. Death. Recoveries. The far-reaching effects of the COVID-19 pandemic will one day end up in the history books as you and I live through it day in and day out right now. Of course, no single blog post or article could ever cover all there is to say, but I want to encourage you with a few thoughts and I also ask that you share this post with people who know who are struggling. We are stronger together!

First, here is an article from the Christian Post that expresses a very important perspective about how people tend to respond to these seasons and I highly encourage you to take a minute to read it: “COVID-19 and Overcoming ‘Vain Imaginings’.

“…If fear of the unknown is the worst kind of fear, a focus on the known is the best antidote. False imaginings stand against the ‘knowledge of God’, says 2 Corinthians 10:5. Therefore, the best cure is concentrating on the revealed knowledge of God…”

Many people are experiencing fear, anxiety, panic and depression not about what is happening, but about what might happen. That is an important distinction! What will happen? Only God knows – and you don’t! Satan doesn’t know either!! The scientists don’t know either. Doctors, presidents, experts- they’re all fallible, mistake-prone and not Omniscient. Only God knows what will happen and He promised His Holy Spirit would tell you what you need to know, when you need to know it about what’s coming next. (John 16:13) Stay close to Him.

The primary issues with fear, anxiety, depression and panic I see and hear amid this pandemic can be directly traced back to “vain imaginings”, which are worlds that we create in our minds, apart from the future God has planned. We let our imaginations run away with us and we fall into and indulge “What if” scenarios, when in God is ONLY Lord over the things He creates, not the “vain imaginings” of the scenarios we create.

Suggested Devotional Reading #1: “Jesus is NOT Lord over THIS”

In the Amplified Bible, Proverbs 15:15 says, “All the days of the desponding and afflicted are made evil [by anxious thoughts and forebodings], but he who has a glad heart has a continual feast [regardless of circumstances].”

The Living Bible puts it this way: “When a man is gloomy, everything seems to go wrong; when he is cheerful, everything seems right!”

That is why we experience such turmoil and fear when we start to think of things in the future. Only God knows the future and when we try to imagine it, we experience a future without God in control because we created something apart from God’s design. The worst part? It’s all in our heads! But we believe it, don’t we? And then, we act on it. If you’re to come of out this stronger than when you went in, if you’re going to thrive and not just survive, you MUST STOP the “vain imaginings”, take control over your thoughts and be very protective about who you follow on Facebook, what you’re reading and who you are talking with and listening to.

Suggested Devotional Reading #2: “Who Will Show Us ANY Good??”

You must build yourself up in your faith and turn off the things that suggest anything contrary to the Word of God. Stop looking for predictions and forecast models. Stop tracing viral paths. Stop reading about death counts. Remember what Jude wrote when he said, But you, beloved, build yourselves up in your most holy faith. Pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in the love of God while you are waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, which leads to eternal life.” (Jude 1:19-20) Paul told Timothy to, “…avoid profane foolish babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness, and their word will spread like gangrene.” (2 Timothy 2:17-18)

Suggested Devotional Reading #3 – “40 Things He’ll Do For You”

God is on your side, yes, but you need to be on your side as well! You’ve been given the weapons you need to fight with. A cord of three strands, not easily broken: The wisdom of the Word of God, the power of prayer in the Holy Spirit and the weapon of worship. You are not defenseless and the enemy traffics openly in the terrors and nightmares of “what if” so stay out of his territory! What will happen in all of this?! I DO NOT KNOW! But I do know that,”Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4) The real power in this Scripture happens when you give permission to the Lord to guide and comfort you and you stop giving Satan permission to drag you onto his turf to torment you with “vain imaginings” and “evil forebodings”. Those are demonic– break their power in Jesus’ name and then defend your ground!

GOD BLESS YOU, FRIENDS! GOD IS WITH YOU and if you are scared, depressed, anxious, panicked …. please reach out and send me a prayer request. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. ❤
