God is the Creator and Reigns Over Everything Except This…
God is the Creator who spoke the world into existence and whatever He speaks life into lives. In Genesis chapter 1, when God said, “Let there be light“, He illuminated the world with light– not the sun (which was spoken into existence on Day 4 of Creation Week). So where did that light come from? It came from Him. God is light and in Him is no darkness (1 John 1:5). Yet in this life, we all experience darkness of every kind, don’t we? Remember that not all darkness is evil. Darkness is simply the absence of light. So, when God breaks through, there is LIGHT. This may conflict with the darkness of what you’re currently walking through, but does that mean God isn’t there? Of course not!
Speaking of “light”, you know that Jesus Christ is the light of the world (John 8:12), and that, “All things were created through Him, and without Him nothing was created that was created. In Him was life, and the life was the light of mankind. The light shines in darkness, but the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:3-5) The darkness of the world cannot overtake the Light- that is a promise, and Jesus Christ is the Lord over all things (Matthew 28:18), except one thing….
God is the Creator of His Own Creation, Not Yours
Remember that when God creates anything, there is light. However, if you are not experiencing that light within you, in your heart, in your mind and in your soul; if you are plagued with darkness like fear, worry, anxiety, depression and worse, you are living your life in the one place God doesn’t rule over: “What if…?” God rules as Lord only over what He creates. He has a future and a hope for you, and for everyone else every who He has created, (Joshua 29:11) but if you have stepped into His role as creator of your future through your imagination, you have wandered into idolatry. You are setting yourself up as “god”, allowing your mind wander into the darkness of “what if”, and you will feel powerless and helpless- because you are when Jesus Christ is not Lord over your life! And you will not experience the things that come where His light rules: peace that passes understanding, joy unspeakable and full of glory, acceptance, faith to see the invisible, identity, authority, grace that is sufficient for you, hope that rises….
Get a grip on your imagination – moment by moment if necessary – and cast down the temptation to become the “creator” of the future.
~Alicia Purdy
We all do it at times. We all try to anticipate what’s next and we speculate, “What if this happens?”, “What if that does not happen?”; “What will I do if…?”; “What if this situation gets worse?”; “What if I get there and God hasn’t answered yet?”; “What if things fall apart?”; “What if I don’t have the money?”; “What if someone gets sick or they die?” …. And then we experience the results of walking outside of boundaries of God’s light which rules over the paths He lays out, the futures and plans He has, the resolutions He has crafted, the answers He has prepared; we experience anger, fear, anxiety, depression, frustration, impatience, bitterness, faithlessness, prayerlessness, hopelessness, distance from God. Then we wonder where He is – He is in the Light! You must “walk in the light” as He is in the light. (1 John 1:7)
Thought for today: God is the Creator of Your Future, if You Desire
John wrote that Jesus Christ, “The true Light, which enlightens everyone,” had come that that even though, “the world was created through Him, yet the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own people did not receive Him.” That’s us! We are His people and while we “receive” His light into our hearts, it is sometimes harder to “receive” His light into our circumstances and experiences and then we cry all alone out in the darkness of where our minds have wandered off to. However, “to all who received Him, He gave the power to become sons of God, to those who believed in His name.” (John 1:9-13)
God is the creator of what He speaks life into and He will rule in His wisdom over it, but He will not rule over the future of your creation, the one where you fret and worry and cry and fall into despair as your imagination takes hold and grips your heart with the icy claws of fear. He rules over what HE creates, not over what you insist on creating. You were commanded to cast down, “imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5) WORSHIP THE LORD. Build your faith and draw near, get into His presence and REFUSE. TO. LEAVE. Get a grip on your imagination – moment by moment if necessary – and cast down the temptation to become the “creator” of the future. You, in your natural existence here on earth, can only create darkness. GOD will cast light onto everything in the future HE creates. Stay in the light – God is there, and His authority over every circumstance is triumphant over all darkness.
