“Fix” your thoughts on Jesus

"Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest." ~Hebrews 3:1

Doesn’t it sound to easy when someone says that all you need to do to get victory is to “fix your thoughts” on Jesus? Then, when life explodes in your face, giving you a lot to “think” about, your mind becomes an array of emotional responses, physical reactions and negative outbursts! Who can think about Jesus in times like that?! The natural mind will always think and act like humans do, but the spiritual mind will think and act like Christ. Warning: Getting to the point in your life where your spiritual side is in control in every area will probably take the rest of your life so be patient with yourself!

Remember this: “Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.” (Hebrews 3:1) And this: For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have One who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet He did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” (Hebrews 4:15-16)

Being transformed from a natural mind to a spiritual one is a life-long process where you are transformed each time you encounter an area that needs transformation.

You were born with a natural mind, made in the image of God, but that will only get you so far, especially when life gets hard. Have you ever noticed that many people of faith struggle with many of the same temptations the unsaved world does? Depression and anxiety, grudges, carnal behaviors, Christian “liberties”, fear of other people’s opinions, rejection – and so much more! That is because the natural mind must be transformed, but that isn’t just a one-time event! Being transformed from a natural mind to a spiritual one is a life-long process where you are transformed each time you encounter an area that needs transformation. Paul noted that those trapped in the natural mindset see everything with a veil over their hearts. (2 Corinthians 3:14-15) Nevertheless,” he wrote, “When anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit. And where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, seeing the glory of the Lord with unveiled faces, as in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory by the Spirit of the Lord.”

Thought for today

You need your mind “fixed” – as do I, and as do we all. “Fix” your mind from its natural tendencies and reactions and experiences by fixing your thoughts on Jesus, the author of Hebrews said. Not it’s not easy, but you’re also not left to figure it out on your own. Having the mind of the Lord, thinking like He does, each time you encounter life’s ups and downs is developed through turning to the Lord. “When anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is removed,” Paul said. Being changed from “glory to glory” is only going to happen when you see the glory of the Lord, Paul wrote. What is one way you’re guaranteed to see the glory of the Lord? Worship.
