Forged in Fire: “A Tool for the Master’s Use”

"So the craftsman encourages the smelter, And he who smooths metal with the hammer encourages him who beats the anvil, Saying of the soldering, 'It is good'; And he fastens it with nails, So that it will not totter." ~Isaiah 41:7

You love the Lord, there is no question about that. But how are you being used by Him? The people of God, those who truly desire to follow Him, be like Him, walk as He did, do what He has done and transform the world for His Kingdom are all undergoing a process of transformation at the hands of the Master. As you walk out your faith each day, you’ll become stronger in your faith the more you allow the Lord to shape you for His use – like forging iron. Iron is one of the most basic elements of life. You even have it in your blood and you cannot live without it. Iron is strong, and able to be shaped and used for almost every purpose on earth- if you know how to work with it.

Because iron is so strong, in order for it to be forged – shaped or re-shaped – a blacksmith must set it back- again – directly into the fire. Often times, in our God-seasons of fire, we’ll experience a “forging” – the process by which iron is shaped and then hardened into a useful tool for the Master’s use. In those seasons where you are back in the fire, remember this: You once asked God to use to, and to make you more like Him- and He answered!

…sometimes another person’s act of sin become a season of “fire” for you. Other times, your own choices set your life ablaze. But when God puts you in the fire, it’s an answer to prayer, an act of great love, to shape you into what He wants you to be.

Remember that God doesn’t send or use suffering to teach you lessons and He doesn’t “allow” suffering either – that would mean He partners with darkness, which is a lie! But, Satan has the legal right to access mankind- to influence thoughts and behaviors and prompt them and entice those in sin, so sometimes another person’s act of sin become a season of “fire” for you. Other times, your own choices set your life ablaze. But when God puts you in the fire, it’s not pain and suffering (although it might be tough at times), it’s purpose, an answer to prayer, an act of great love, to shape you into what He wants you to be. What a good, good Father!

And each time the Lord needs to reshape you for a new season, a new purpose, you will need to go back into the fire to soften you again. You will be hammered and twisted and heated until you are what He needs to be- as long as you submit to the process. Once the heating period is over, iron is then cleaned and buffed with a wire brush to remove the rough edges. Sound like anything you’ve been through?! “So the craftsman encourages the smelter, And he who smooths metal with the hammer encourages him who beats the anvil, Saying of the soldering, ‘It is good’; And he fastens it with nails, So that it will not totter.” (Isaiah 41:7) God is watching over your forging process. He is a master craftsman watching you with intention, love and great care. If you want to be more like Him and be used in His Kingdom, He is willing to work with you in the forging fire, if you are willing to let Him.

Thought for today

What the does Lord need you to be in His Kingdom? For what purpose is He forging you right now? Maybe you don’t know just yet. Have you submitted to His process? Dear friends, “I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:6) Remember that just because it hurts, or because we feel the twisting and the heat and the pounding doesn’t mean it’s bad or that you’ve missed God. Maybe God is forging you in fire because He needs to be a certain way to bring out your strength and so you can be the most effective for His purposes. We who want to be like Him, “fit for the Master’s use, and prepared for every good work,” (2 Timothy 2:21) must all be forged in the fire, and then fashioned by the same process, but for different uses, by a loving God who has a plan that He wants you to be part of! Set aside time to draw closer to God in worship today and let yourself soften under His capable hands! ❤
