When the meek become mighty…
Moses is one of the most well-known authors in the Bible, historically credited with writing the first five books: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. But did you know that he wrote worship songs and poetry as well? Psalm 90 is a poetic prayer that Moses wrote about perspectives of God’s might, authority and power in contrast to the weakness, fallibility and need of humankind and a deeply reflective statement on man’s nature versus the nature of God. But Moses also wrote a song in worship to the Lord found in Exodus 15. What’s so great is that this comes from a man who felt he had nothing to offer to the Lord, to the Hebrews or to anyone else! (Numbers 12:1-8) Moses thought he was a nothing, but God saw something in him that He wanted to use to implement an eternal change in the world.
Worship will cause the meek to become mighty, the quiet to find their voice, the fearful to find courage and the nothings to become somethings in the Lord!
You don’t have to be an “out loud” kind of person to make a difference in the world. God uses all types! But even the meekest, most gentle personality, the person who is quiet or even shy or the one who lacks confidence or doesn’t see themselves as very important…when submitted to the Lord is the one God will use to wipe out armies, lead nations to deliverance, work miracles and operate as a mouthpiece for Him. Wow! But you don’t get that close to the Lord without putting in some real effort in your life, in your worship to get into His presence. Remember, at this point in time, there was no Word of God, no Bible! Moses drew near to the Lord simply because Moses loved Him that much! Worship was the natural outflow of Moses’ love for the Lord and because Moses had spent so much time with the Lord, the Lord trusted him with everything He needed to accomplish on earth at that time!Β “…he is entrusted with all My house.Β Face to face I speak with him clearly,Β and not in riddles,Β and the likeness of theΒ LordΒ will he behold.” (Numbers 12:7-8)
In Exodus 15, the Hebrews had just wiped out the world’s largest and most powerful army, the Egyptians, after the sea closed in and killed them. Moses was so overwhelmed at the power of God that he forgot how quiet and shy he was and he broke out into song for all to hear! That is my prayer for you today! I pray, in the name of Jesus Christ, that you would realize how powerfully the Lord is working in you and through you and for you and that your natural response would be to break out of your restraints of self-consciousness and fear and inhibition and sing a new song for the world to hear! He is worthy!Β Worship will cause the meek to become mighty, the quiet to find their voice, the fearful to find courage and the nothings to become somethings in the Lord! Thought for today
Meekness is not the same thing as weakness. Moses was quiet and humble and unassuming and even fearful at times, painfully shy and lacking confidence, but God used him because God trusted Him. Worship is one of the most powerful ways to allow the Lord to know you and trust you. Yes, He knows everything about you already, but He desires intimacy, a greater level of closeness, and for that to happen, you have to initiate it by devoting time to being in His presence. Psalm 22:3 says the Lord dwells within the praises of His people. As you worship the Lord, you enter into His dwelling place, rather than making Him come to you. It’s an act of humility, submission, obedience and vulnerability that the Lord will honor in your life. Don’t worry about anything else- if God can use Moses, he’s got something for you too! <3
