The Worship Lifestyle

Worshipping Together Means Winning Together!

One of the best things you can do for your family is instill in them a heart of gratitude to the Lord, a love for His Word and a respect for His holy authority- but that is easier said than done, in reality! Worshipping together may not come naturally, but it it an investment that will carry your family through the worst trials and tribulations the world has to offer. In today’s troubled world, where young people are abandoning their faith in increasing numbers, where families are spending more time online than with each other, and the church is fracturing over social issues, it is easy to become distracted by the troubles- but that makes worshipping together as a family more crucial than it ever was.

One generation shall praise Your works to anotherΒ and shall declare Your mighty acts.Β I will speak of the glorious honor of Your majestyΒ and of Your wondrous works.Β They shall speak of the might of Your awesome acts,Β and I will declare Your greatness.”

In Psalm 145:4-6, the responsibility to lead others in worshipping together is expressed as being one each person should take on. Notice the words: If “I” will speak glory to God, then “they” will speak of His mighty acts. Your example of worship will instill in others a faith foundation that the Lord can build upon. Maybe it won’t happen today, but it will happen because the Word of God gave you that promise- and you can hold onto that! Psalm 22:27 says, “All the ends of the worldΒ will remember and turn to theΒ Lord,Β and all the families of the nationsΒ will worship before You.”Β

Build a Lifestyle of Worshipping Together

You know, from Ecclesiastes 4:12, that there is power in numbers and it is no different when applied as a spiritual principle! Jesus reiterated this in Matthew 18:20 when He said where two or three are gathered, He would be in their midst. That makes your family the perfect place to build a life of spiritual strength and support. No matter where you are positioned in your family, leading by example is the most powerful way to raise up individuals who will take what they have learned and add to it, grow it and expand it in the Kingdom of God. Steven Covey once said, “What you do has far greater impact that what you say.” Your family is watching. If you’re a mother, a father, a sister or brother, a daughter or son or cousin – it doesn’t matter – you can lead the way and start to establish a lifestyle of worshipping together! You can set the example for godliness to everyone in your family, just as David did. David was considered to be the least in his family, even by his own father, (1 Samuel 18:18) yet he was the one chosen to lead God’s people because God saw in David a heart that would worship Him.

A lifestyle of worship is lived behind closed doors, where only your family can see you, the real you.

Being a person of faith has never been easy, and sometimes it is the hardest within your own family- but that doesn’t change anything. In fact, if you’re a missionary in your own family, you’ll face some of the worst forms of persecution and rejection, but that makes your living example that much more important. Not everyone will want to hear what you have to say, but they are watching you closely. Someday, when your kids, or your spouse, or your parents or the people in your family reach a place of brokenness (and they will!), they will remember your living witness and your example of worship- and because of you, they will remember Jesus. They may even reach out to you.- or they may not, but the Lord will take care of the seeds you’ve planted. You can trust Him.

Your example of worship is a seed planted, every time, in every circumstance. Don’t fall into the temptation to give up! Isaiah 11:3 says not to judge nor reprove by what your eyes see, nor by what your ears hear. 2 Corinthians 5:7 says to walk by faith and not by what you see. You keep drawing near to the Lord’s presence through worship so you can stay strong with His joy. (Neh. 8:10, Psalm 16:11) Don’t forget that your enemy, the devil, knows that worshipping together means winning together, and that’s why he is attacking your worship so hard, trying to drag you into the weeds so he can finish off your faith. Don’t worry- WORSHIP- at home, in the car, while your walking or working out, or anywhere else your family is watching. It may not be easy, but your living witness of faithful worship will implant within them a living seed of a faithful God and He will be be faithful to see it through to completion. (Phil. 1:6, Heb. 12:2)

Thought for today: It is Never too Late to Start Worshipping Together

Worshipping together within a family isn’t a random occurrence. Worshipping families are cultivated, grown, pruned, nourished, tended to and watered with the Word. You must set an example of worship to your family, especially- any children that you love in your life. Children have very open hearts before the Lord and living out loud in your worship will cause them to have the natural desire to do the same. There will be times when you’ll feel you have your work cut out for you. You’ll feel like you’re tearing down the idols in your family while they all shout at you. You’ll feel like you’re trying to cast down the high places, while they’re all rebuilding them – but God is faithful! Instilling a heart of worship into the next generation doesn’t meant just putting Christian songs on the radio while you’re driving to soccer practice or even worshipping at church on Sundays.

A lifestyle of worship is lived behind closed doors, where only your family can see you, the real you- the words you speak, how you respond in your faith, and the way you worship (or not!) in times of joy, sadness, weakness, confusion, triumph and everything else. It won’t always be easy, especially when you’re walking in turbulent waters, but your family is watching you. They are learning from you. They need you to win the daily fight of faith so someday when they are in their own battles, they will remember your example and follow in your footsteps. Live your life as a worship minister to the Lord starting today- it’s never too late to focus on worshipping together, even if it is hard. Put the rest into the Lord’s faithful hands!
