The book of Revelation is a complex, beautiful image of events unfolding in the very last day’s before the final and triumphant return of the Lord. Permeating the entire narrative are repeated images of the worship of Jesus Christ in heaven. In fact, if anything can be definitively ascertained about heaven from the book of Revelation, it is that heaven is a place where every created thing lives in a state of perpetual worship of the Almighty God. They cry out, they play instruments, they fall down, they prophesy, they sing and shout and dance before the Lord. What a powerful image of worship!
If we really want the kingdom of God and His will here on earth, if we really want open heavens, we must be open and willing to do what heaven does!
Many people love to pray to the Lord and say things like, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven!”, but then struggle with the very things we see in heaven – like how heaven worships. Why do you think that is? If we really want the kingdom of God and His will here on earth, if we really want open heavens, we must be open and willing to do what heaven does! In Revelation 15, “those who have victory” over the enemy worship God and sing the “song of the Lamb”, exalting Him for His greatness and glory. These worshippers are those who have overcome, “by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony.” (Revelation 12:11) There is a faith that is so strong and so firm in its belief of God’s goodness and power that nothing can shake it. Maybe it feels impossible to you right now, but worship is act of faith that goes beyond your experiences right now.
These worshippers in heaven? These are fighters. These are the ones who were shot at by the enemy, their families attacked, their bodies damaged, bearing scars and wounds, tears streaming down their faces, the ones refusing to believe in anything other than the goodness and faithfulness of God, screaming “IT. IS. WRITTEN.” in the face of Satan as the world crashes down around them. These are the people who are “hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.” (2 Corinthians 2:7-11) This is what worshippers look like in heaven. Why should it be any different here on earth? KNOW THIS: Worship is what victory looks like before you actually see it.
Thought for today
Revelation 19:20 says, “Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” This is one of the most powerful statements you’ll ever read about worship. As you worship according to the living, active and powerful Word, you become a living witness, testifying to the world of what Jesus Christ has done. That worship becomes prophetic, telling others that what God has done for you, He will do for them. That is what makes worship truly prophetic. If you really want the Kingdom of God to come into your life, and His will to be done- then worship the Lord like they do in heaven! Tear open the heavens and join in with the saints and angels in the exaltation of God! Bring heaven down and God’s will will be done! Amen!
