One of the most fascinating things about worship is what it does for God. God doesn’t need anything that mankind can offer Him and yet He absolutely delights in the praise and worship of His people. What makes worship so special isn’t that a big crowd has gathered together to make a joyful noise. What makes worship so special to God is that you are there.
God has His eye on the individual, on each specific person who is offering their own, unique worship to Him. God does highly specific and deeply personal works and wonders for each one of us, and when we grab hold of those things and use them to offer Him the sacrifice of praise, He is truly glorified!
Have you ever taken a look at what worship looks like in heaven? Revelation 4:6-8 gives just the tiniest glimpse into the mixture of creatures worshipping the Lord:
“In the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were four living creatures covered with eyes in front and in back. The first living creature was like a lion, the second living creature like a calf, the third living creature had a face like a man, and the fourth creature was like a flying eagle. The four living creatures had six wings each, and they were covered with eyes all around. All day and night, without ceasing, they were [worshipping]…”
Add that to the worshipping elders, the crowds of humanity, the angels, the rocks and hills and trees and you’ll start to have just a small idea of how unique worship really is! What a blessing it is to God when you break away from the crowd and offer Him something that is meaningful to you. Just between you and the Lord. Thanksgiving for that very personal act He has done for you. Thank Him! Who cares if you look like six-winged creature covered in eyeballs to everyone else? God thinks you and your worship are gorgeous! ❤
