You don’t make it into Hebrews 11, the “faith chapter” without some legendary, crazy faith in the Lord. Crazy like… being willing to kill your own child just because God asked you to. Crazy like… building a boat in a land that had never seen rain. Crazy like… departing from the only life you’ve ever known to lead a bunch of rebellious Hebrew slaves into a desert with the world’s mightiest army pursing you. Crazy like… being a prostitute and betraying your country based on the word of some invaders who ask you to hide them. Crazy faith.
Here’s the really “crazy” thing… their faith didn’t depend on ever, ever, ever seeing the actual promise come true in their lifetime on earth. Whatever promises came true for these people, they witnessed from heaven. Do you have that kind of faith? Do I? What a challenging thought! We all stand on the promises of God, expecting to see them come true while we exist on earth, and yet those mentioned in Hebrews 11…? “These all died in faith not having received the promises, but having seen them from afar were assured of them, embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.”
How does that kind of faith happen? Do what Moses did… keep your eyes on the One who is invisible… That is FAITH. The firm knowledge that God will do what He promised, even if you never, ever see it happen here on earth. Even if you die, or if people you love die – that promise is still in effect! That is “invisible” faith. But it produces impossible results!
