The disciples knew of the prophecies and promises of the Messiah and even they fell, just for a moment, into despair at the sight of Jesus Christ hanging on the Cross at Calvary. What a difficult, traumatizing, painful sight that must have been for them! A sight like that – the blood, the pain, the crying and agony, the innocent silence, a Lamb led to slaughter, the tearing apart of flesh from a beautiful, kind, gentle, compassionate Man – their friend, Jesus. It would shake anyone’s faith’s, even if just for those moments when their eyes beheld just a horrific sight.
Jesus’ disciples rallied. They remembered the Word of God, and the words of Jesus Christ Himself. They gathered together and waited for the promise. They didn’t know how it would unfold exactly. They just knew that God was faithful and that because of Jesus Christ, something new, never before seen or done or heard of, yet foretold and clung to. Isaiah cried out: “Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”
