Worship Devotions

Is your worship “beautiful” to God?

"Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is beautiful." ~Psalm 33:1

The whole point of worship is to connect with the Spirit of God. It is vital that you spend time connecting in worship, specifically, because this is what the Lord, Himself, has asked for. (And when God asks for something, pay attention!) There is purpose and intention in what He wants- it is to bless you, and sustain you, and support you, to give you victory and win the lost, among other things!

Praise from the upright is beautiful” to God, the Psalmist wrote. The Bible puts it this way: because of Jesus, all those who believe in Him are righteous (2 Corinthians 5:21), but sadly not all who name the name of Christ are upright. In fact, all genuine spirit and truth worship is wonderful to God, but from those who have truly committed their lives to walking uprightly, living in His righteousness, maintaining an innocence from sin- praise is “beautiful” the Word says. In fact, God wants to live within it!

The upright strive, contend, pursue, adjust, learn, grow and fight for the faith, and turn and disciple others in the same way. God finds their worship to be beautifully magnetic.

Does that mean you can never mess up? No! Being upright means that your life is the kind of testimony He wants to be told of Him. It’s okay to struggle, or have a bad day or a rough season because you will spend the rest of your life in the process of sanctification. But it is not okay to accept or justify your condition, or to give up or partner with sin or become comfortable in mediocrity. The “upright” as the Bible puts it, aren’t perfect, no, but they are those who are pursuing. The upright strive, contend, pursue, adjust, learn, grow and fight for the faith, and turn and disciple others in the same way. God finds their worship to be beautifully magnetic. In fact, the way the Bible puts it, God finds the worship from His upright people to be enticing, it draws Him closer and He wants to set up His habitation within it. In fact, Psalm 22:3 confirms this saying that God inhabits, or comes and dwells within that type of praise.

Thought for today

“Feeling” connected to God, or operating by your emotions to “feel” connected is a false pursuit of worship. Bless God. Minister unto Him. Offer up a sacrifice of yourself, your inhibitions, your own will- sacrifice your anger, bitterness, fear and unforgiveness, lust, struggle and even your reputation, to lift Him high. And certainly don’t stop! God is faithful to those who are faithful to Him, it’s a promise! (Psalm 18:25) The worship of the upright is where God wants to live, where He will set up His habitation and if there is any power in heaven and on earth that will accomplish what you need, it’s His mighty presence. Our life-long goal is to grow up, put those hands up and get into worship- God there waiting for you there!
