Over the centuries, science has tried to refute the story of Moses and the burning bush noting that there are several types of wilderness bushes that spontaneously combust. Some have said that Moses must have seen one of those types when he heard the Lord speak. It couldn’t have been a miracle, and certainly could not have defied the wisdom of man and all the accumulated knowledge of the world, right?! Here’s what they don’t take into account: The bush, unlike all other bushes that have ever burned did not burn out. Why? Because it was the Holy Spirit of God who was making it burn. And, because of the message the Lord conveyed through the humble bush, the world was forever changed. People were set free. Miracles took place.
The burning of your worship, the Holy Spirit-ignited, unquenchable, unstoppable wildfire of your zealous, passionate, hallelujah, fully physical, enthusiastic testimony as a first-hand witness of God’s power is what causes that fire to spread.
Many people get into the wilderness spontaneously combust and are then consumed by the heat and fire. However, if you allow yourself to burn with the Spirit of God, even in the wilderness you will burn more brightly. You will not be consumed by the fire. Your burning will not be “spontaneous” and out of control, but purposeful. The Spirit of God will use your burning to send a message that will change lives, set captives free and usher in the miraculous!
“Fan into flames the gift of God that is in you…,” Paul wrote to Timothy (2 Timothy 1:6-8). “For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and love, and self-control. So do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord…” Your worship is a testimony to the world of who God is and what He has done. Not simply showing up to church and singing a few songs and maybe timidly raising your hands. “Don’t be ashamed”! The burning of your worship, the Holy Spirit-ignited, unquenchable, unstoppable wildfire of your zealous, passionate, hallelujah, fully physical, enthusiastic testimony as a first-hand witness of God’s power is what causes that fire to spread. So, burn, baby, burn!
Thought for today
“Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the way and while He opened the Scriptures to us?” the disciples said to each other, after Jesus had appeared to them on the road to Emmaus in Luke 24. When Jesus speaks to you, your spirit will burn with His words because they are always timely, relevant, necessary and transformative. Don’t hold that in or keep it to yourself. If Jesus has spoken to you, or if He has open His Word to you, opened your eyes to the truth in a way that ministered, helped, guided or blessed you- that is your testimony of worship! There is only one way you could ever possible even begin to “repay” all that God has done for you- worship. (Psalm 50:14) Burn brightly and the world will see His light in you!
